I remember sitting in my soul-crushing, institutional-gray windowless office and thinking there has to be more to life than writing inspection reports all day. Like most 20-somethings, I did what was expected… get a job, work 40 hours a week to pay the bills, have a little fun on the weekends, then do it all over again. But I had this nagging feeling that I was meant for more.

In 2009, without much of a plan or experience, I handed in my 2 weeks' notice and dove headfirst into entrepreneurship and my handmade jewelry business.

Horsefeathers Gifts began in a 100-square foot bedroom in a single-wide trailer on my family farm in Kentucky. Back then it was just me and my newfound freedom, feeling like a boss, untiI remembered that there was no bi-weekly paycheck anymore. It was all on me to make money. 

I was excited and terrified but there was no time for fear.

Fueled by relentless determination and a crap ton of Dr. Pepper, I applied for every craft show within 50 miles and got my Etsy shop up and running like my grocery budget depended on it because it did.

In 2012, just three years after diving headfirst into entrepreneurship…

• HorseFeathers outgrew that tiny trailer bedroom 
• I moved to a dedicated workspace in my first “big girl” studio
• I flew to LA to be in the celebrity gifting suite for the Oscars and landed a live interview with FOX News 
• My little handmade business was officially on the map and known for our meaningful gemstone jewelry and handcrafted charms

The freedom of calling the shots in my business came with my share of ups and downs. But with my pure Kentucky farmgirl grit and a willingness to do whatever it took, HorseFeathers exploded into a nationally recognized online brand.

From corporate employee to business owner, HorseFeathers has grown from just me into a lifestyle brand with a team of talented people who all add their signature touch to the brand's awesome vibe. We've even sent our unique creations to over 50 countries – talk about taking the world by storm!

HorseFeathers is about more than jewelry. It’s a testament to what can happen with a never-give-up attitude, and it represents the belief that crafting isn't just about jewelry; it's a lifestyle that celebrates you and the pursuit of your dreams.
